SUMMARY:Corona TV Bot | Marc Lee
DESCRIPTION:‚(Corona) TV Bot‘ – Marc Lee\nOPENING: September 6\, 4-8pm\nEXHIBITION: September 6 – October 4; Sunday-Thursday\, 4-8pm\nVENUE: re:publica Campus – Ziegrastraße 1\, 112057 Berlin \nsynthesis gallery is delighted to announce its latest exhibition ‚(Corona) TV Bot‘ by Marc Lee as part of re:publica Campus. \nre:publica Campus is a month-long festival addressing the digital society’s most important issues with as many different interested parties as possible and a free digital fair open to anyone. The festival highlights the social\, cultural\, and technical changes brought by digitization\, addresses current topics\, challenges\, and thus makes complex subjects tangible for everyone. \nFor the occasion\, synthesis gallery is pleased to present Marc Lee’s live streaming ‚(Corona) TV Bot‘. In Lee’s most recent work in response to the coronavirus pandemic\, the latest Twitter and YouTube posts tagged with #COVID-19 and #Coronavirus are mediated in a wild continuous (24/7) feed TV show. This feed features content – images\, videos\, and tweets – from traditional broadcast sources as well as social media content from private individuals flickering across the screen in real time. \nWhile\, as users of social networks\, we typically only ever see variants of our own opinions mirrored back to us on social media\, TV Bot (an ongoing project by the artist since 2004) is intended to confront us with views beyond the bounds of these echo-chambers\, due to it universally picking up all searched for hashtag posts on a non-critical basis. TV Bot is a flexible platform in which the viewer can replace the current key words with different key words as they wish to create their own online art TV show\, according to their own preferences and share it with others.\nPlease register in advance on re-publica.com in order to visit the exhibition. On site\, you will be asked to check in and out using a web app (no download required). The event has been designed in accordance with all currently valid distance and hygiene regulations and re:publica reserves the right to make changes according to the specifications of the Berlin Senate. WEARING A FACE MASK IS MANDATORY ON SITE. For more information about re:publica Campus\, visit http://campus.re-publica.com or http://re-publica.com. \nBig thanks to Grover for the ongoing support. \nMARC LEE (b. 1969\, CH\, http://marclee.io) creates network-oriented interactive art projects using interactive installations\, digital art and new media art. He experiments with information and communication technologies and within his contemporary art practice\, he reflects critically on creative\, cultural\, social\, economic\, and political aspects. Lee’s works have been exhibited in major museums and new media art exhibitions across the world including: New Museum – New York\, Transmediale – Berlin\, Museum of Modern Art- Shanghai\, MMCA – Seoul\, ZKM – Karlsruhe\, HeK – Basel\, Ars Electronica – Linz. \nsynthesis gallery (http://www.synthesis.gallery) is the leading VR-based art gallery: an immersive blend of technology and art displayed under one roof\, showcasing cutting-edge experiences by new wave artists and visionaries through virtual reality. Founded in New York in October 2017 by George Vitale\, the gallery opened its doors to the public in April 2018 in Berlin. Pieces are displayed through different media. Tangible and traditional art forms intermingle with Oculus and Vive headsets. Dedicated to exhibiting internationally renowned\, well-established artists alongside emerging ones\, since its inception\, synthesis has garnered considerable attention in the art scene.

SUMMARY:Realness – Intimate Garden | Sandrine Deumier
DESCRIPTION:‚REALNESS – INTIMATE GARDEN‘ – Sandrine Deumier\nOPENING: February 20\, 1-7pm\nRECEPTION: February 20\, 7-9pm\nEXHIBITION: February 20 – February 23\, 1-7pm \nsynthesis gallery is pleased to announce its latest exhibition ‚Realness – Intimate Garden‘ by Sandrine Deumier. \nDeumier creates virtual environments where amorphous\, anonymous\, beautifully complex humanoids live in organic symbiosis with their natural environment. SUMMARY:It’s Dark Inside | Evelyn Bencicova & Armin Keplinger
DESCRIPTION:IT’S DARK INSIDE – Evelyn Bencicova & Armin Keplinger\nEXHIBITION: December 7\, 1-9pm\nPUBLIC RECEPTION: December 7\, 6-9pm; complimentary drinks kindly provided by BrewDog\nVENUE: TBA one day before the show; use the ‚Reserve a spot‘ button above or email giorgio@synthesis.gallery to receive updates. \nsynthesis gallery is a space to experience pioneering artists through VR headsets. Visionaries\, who understand the importance and freedom of this medium\, find a space at synthesis where they are able to play within the conscientious appeal that virtual and augmented reality affords our generation. \nNo games. No cyborgs. Simple sophistication that goes beyond the senses. \nWe understand that if left to the tech industry\, the future of virtual reality can easily morph into a solitary\, corporatized\, irrelevant experience. It does not have to be. \nVR is frequently mistaken as the end\, not the mean\, with the accent placed on the technology – at the expenses of the art. VR art is often delivered without a clear vision and curatorial framework – on the altar of the hype. \n‘It’s Dark Inside’ kicks off a series of bi-annual exhibitions aimed to address these ongoing issues. We are stepping out of our comfort zone/white cube in Kopernikusstraße 14 to deliver shows with solid vision and curatorial efforts. \nNow\, more than ever\, we are taking this time as an opportunity to showcase the possibilities. \nE V E L Y N B E N C I C O V A | A R M I N K E P L I N G E R\nin collaboration with Arielle Esther and Joris Demnard \nBencicova and Keplinger play with inter/multidisciplinarity for ‘It’s Dark Inside’: from photography to sculptures and sound performance\, all elegantly interlaced with VR. \nBencicova presents ‘Artificial Tears’: a set of 5 large scale prints intertwined with a VR artwork. ‘Artificial Tears’ aims to challenge mainstream views on photography through an immersive journey narrated by the main character as it wanders through several surreal digital landscapes – a product of its own imagination. Bencicova joins forces with Arielle Esther (sound) and Joris Demnard (VR production) to create a multi-layered experience connecting physical installation with its virtual counterpart. Keplinger presents his latest VR fatigue ‘ms-R’ along with a set of kinetic sculptures and a sound performance. ‘ms-R’ features a moon-sliced ring with zero latitude. As the ring moves slowly in circle around the participant’s view with subtle light and movements\, ‘ms-R’ aims to send the viewer in a journey to black-end spaces. \n‚It’s Dark Inside‘ is curated by George Vitale. \nBig thanks to Grover for the ongoing support. \nEVELYN BENCICOVA (b. 1992\, SK\, http://evelynbencicova.com) is a visual creative artist specializing in photography and art direction. With a background in fine arts and new media studies\, Bencicova’s practice combines academic research with an interest in contemporary culture to create a unique aesthetic space in which the conceptual meets the visual. Bencicova’s commercial and artistic works have been featured in Vogue Portugal\, Vogue Czechoslovakia\, Vogue Korea\, ZEIT Magazine\, The Gentlewoman\, ELLE\, Dazed & Confused and HANT. She has participated in solo and group exhibitions in London\, Tokyo\, Paris\, Berlin\, Milan and Amsterdam to mention few. \nARMIN KEPLINGER (b. 1982\, AUT\, www.arminkeplinger.com) is an artist with focus on digital image creation and state of art CGI techniques. In his practice\, Keplinger explores the interaction between digital and physical spaces as well as the split between different stages of time. His video artworks\, sculptures and installations have been exhibited at Winzavod Moscow Contemporary Art Center\, Opera National de Paris\, Saatchi Gallery and Hessel Museum of Art among other ones. \nSYNTHESIS GALLERY\, the first VR art gallery\, is an immersive blend of technology and art displayed under one roof\, showcasing cutting-edge experiences by new wave artists and visionaries through virtual reality. DESCRIPTION:A NEW JERUSALEM – Michael Takeo Magruder\nOPENING: September 11th 2019\, 1-5pm\nOPENING RECEPTION: September 11th 2019\, 6-9pm;\nEXHIBITION: September 11th – September 15th 2019\, 1-7pm \nSynthesis Gallery is pleased to announce its opening exhibition season and the Berlin premiere of A New Jerusalem by Michael Takeo Magruder during Berlin Art Week 2019. \nThe narrative of the Book of Revelation is not just one of apocalyptic destruction; it is also a journey of salvation and unveiling. The Book’s positive culmination is expressed in the creation of a heavenly city – referred to as New Jerusalem – that arises from the remains of the old world. \n‚A New Jerusalem‘ is an immersive virtual reality installation that seeks to embody the spirit of this prophesied city. The artwork manifests as a beautiful and illuminated metropolis that is based upon Revelation’s architectural descriptions and can be experienced through two distinct perspectives as witnessed and related by the Book’s narrator\, John the Seer. \nUnlike other pictorial visualizations of this biblical prophecy that have been created throughout history\, the underlying structure of A New Jerusalem is generated solely from the text of Revelation itself that has been translated into a data code form and rendered in four-dimensional virtual space (XYZ plus time). However\, the imagined cityscape is also constructed using current Google Maps data of present day Jerusalem\, thus offering the possibility that – in the words of theologian Professor Edward Adams – „the new creation is not a wholly unrecognizable place\, even if the new Jerusalem is like no city the world has ever seen“. Within this context\, the artwork asks viewers to contemplate why we should care about our present society and environment if promises of „a new heaven and a new earth“ (Rev 21.1) await us. \nMICHAEL TAKEO MAGRUDER (b.1974\, US/UK\, www.takeo.org) is a visual artist and researcher who works with new media including real-time data\, digital archives\, immersive environments\, mobile devices and virtual worlds. His practice explores concepts ranging from media criticism and aesthetic journalism to digital formalism and computational aesthetics\, deploying Information Age technologies and systems to examine our networked\, media-rich world. In the last 20 years\, Michael’s projects have been showcased in over 290 exhibitions in 35 countries\, including the British Library\, London; Circulo de Bellas Artes\, Madrid; the Courtauld Institute of Art\, London; EAST International\, Norwich; Eastside Projects\, Birmingham; FACT\, Liverpool; Georges Pompidou Center\, Paris; KIBLA Multimedijski Center\, Maribor; Museum of London; Nam June Paik Art Center\, Seoul; QUAD\, Derby; SESI’ Cultural Centre\, São Paulo; Somerset House\, London; Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography; and Trans-Media-Akademie\, Hellerau. His art has been funded by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts; Arts Council England; the British Council; the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation; the EU Culture Programme; the Leverhulme Trust; the National Endowment for the Arts\, US; and the National Lottery\, UK. In 2010\, Michael was selected to represent the UK at Manifesta 8: the European Biennial of Contemporary Art. He is artist/researcher-in-residence at the British Library\, undertaking the Imaginary Cities project that creatively examines digital map archives drawn from the Library’s One Million Images from Scanned Books collection on Flickr Commons. Michael is currently the first ever artist-in-residence at the National Archives (UK) and is exploring the institution’s ongoing digital transformation and what constitutes an archive in the 21st century. \nSYNTHESIS GALLERY\, the first VR art gallery\, is an immersive blend of technology and art displayed under one roof\, showcasing cutting-edge experiences by new wave artists and visionaries through virtual reality. Founded in New York in October 2017 by George Vitale\, the gallery opened his doors to the public in April 2018 in Berlin. Synthesis’ shows have so far been selected to be part of Berlin Art Week and participated in art festivals such as Transmediale/Vorspiel. Pieces are displayed through different media. Tangible and traditional art forms intermingle with Oculus and Vive headsets. Dedicated to exhibiting internationally renowned\, well-established artists along emerging ones\, since its inception\, Synthesis has garnered considerable attention in the art scene.
